hmmm...last night i had an interview with orange county for reserve firefighter position. today, i had a preliminary physical test with lafd. passed. God is glorified in my weakness. saturday is written test for oakland fire. still waiting on daly city's results. man, goin through apps is tough. soooo much waiting... maybe its best to not tell people that i'm planning on becoming a firefighter. i almost feel sorry every time i have to tell them that it will take a while before i become one. it will get rid of peoples' expectations. but, maybe it's a good way to tell apart my close friends from acquaintances. i'm getting tired of people asking me, "so, are you a firefighter yet?" i must have told them a thousand times that it will take awhile to become one. but, some people just don't listen. on the other hand, my close friends actually remember some of the stuff i tell them and offer help rather than hound me with questions. in my pursuit of this career, they have made many sacrifices on my behalf. they have prayed for me, provided housing when i come up to berkeley for a test, let me borrow their cars, etc. i just hope that they will be just as happy as i am when i get a job, cuz it belongs just as much to them. i've been blessesd so much by my friends.
when meeting new people, it's a little different. revealing that i am in the process of becoming a firefighter is almost unavoidable. people always ask what i do for a living. hmmm... i go to school full time. cool. what are you studying? uhhh...fire technology. fire what??? fire technology. what's that? they're prerequisite classes for the fire academy. i want to be a firefighter. BAM!!! in less than 30 seconds, i've already set myself up for the next encounter when they ask, "so, are you a firefighter yet?" maybe i should just lie and tell people that i sell insurance or something. don't get me wrong. i love sharing with people about what i do. for most people, firefighters equate to heroes, calendars, and 9/11. most people are so curious about it. i just get tired of being able to anticipate the same ol line of questioning from each person i meet. i pretty much have the same oral presentation each time, minus the visual aids. it's a small price to pay.
i just don't want to be known as, danny the firefighter. it would be nice if people saw me and said, "hey, there goes danny the christian." after all, my job is not who i am...
blah, blah, blah... enuf blabbing. it shouldn't be called blogger. for me, it should be blabber.
