went to tilden golf range today. probably gonna be my last time there, unless i come back up to berkeley and go golfing. went to jonga-jip korean resaurant on sunday. again, my last time there. a lot of "last times" on my mind lately. i'm even considering buying a necklace from a street vender on telegraph before i leave. i cannot believe people buy the "tribal" style jewelry from places like abercrombie, when they can find the real stuff at a better price in berkeley. one of the strange advantages about living in berkeley. you can actually see the guys making the jewelry on ther sidewalk, not some mass produced factory junk put together by shoeless kids. hmmm... gonna miss a lot of things. for the past three years, all i had to do was hop over the rail walk out onto the rooftop to get the most amazing view of the san francisco bay. i took too many sunsets for granted. i'm worried that i'll forget how awesome they were. i still remember seeing the view coming home from school every day. walk up four flights of stairs, open the door, and BAM...another fiery orange sunset burning its image onto my face. every time i left for school, i would look at the campanile. all i had to do was open my front door, and it would be right there off in the distance, but not so far that i couldn't see how late for class i was.

i'll miss the annual nude parade and seeing the small throng of hare-krishna on the far side of telegraph. i'll miss that guy with the mini-piano that always played in front of sproul fountain during the spring semester. the music would always give me a sense of comfort and renewed perspective as i walked to my morning finals every spring. it reminded me that the final i was about to take wasn't all that important in the grand scheme of God's will. i'll miss the comfy blue-gray cloth covered chairs in the main stacks library. i would always go in search for one near the central corridor. the chairs were perfect for studying- comfy, but not too comfy, and great back support for those long nights till 2am. i still get a kick out of those pa announcements that blurted out fifteen minutes before 2. the person behind the voice was obviously up past his bedtime and would say something really goofy. i'll miss that black library worker who i saw for five years straight. i never got his name but we would exchange those nods that said, "yeah, i feel you. you're workin late again, and i'm studyin late again." i offered him some food in the moffitt elevator once, but he declined my offer. he was always cool about me having food laying around. he'd nod, and i'd cover up my snacks with a flap of my north face. i do, however, know the name of the janitor at the rsf. alonzo. this guy was awesome. i have never seen someone take so much pride in their work. he's the reason why all the bathrooms are always so clean and well stocked. i hope he knows that he's appreciated. i always try to say hi to him. i should buy him a gatorade at the sports counter before i leave.

i'll miss the rsf so much. i can honestly say that it is the first and only building i will miss. i have spent so many hours there. not to brag, but i have probably lifted close to a million pounds total in that gym. i always feel at home when i'm there. it's the ideal place. i know my purpose there. there are specific goals and i feel great after each workout. it's so simple and uncommonly just. you get exactly what you put in. fair exchange of work and reward. no one to bother you, just you and the weights. the guys who lift smaller weights remind me of myself my freshman year. 135 lbs. and wet behind the years. every lift, pull, and push felt so awkward back then. everything felt heavy. everyone was stronger. the mirror reflected back a skinny, short freshman who was mainly there cuz it served as a good distraction from studying. now, when i go, i feel a balance, an easiness to it all. it's sorta like the feeling you get when you wear your comfortable jeans and t-shirt to go meet some good friends for lunch on a sunny saturday afternoon. i see people who lift less than me, and i see how far i've come. i see guys who lift more, and it reminds me of how much more i have to go. the big guys serve as my motivation, esp. those white guys with large frames who grew up on idaho farms eating meat and potatoes.

i'll miss the convenient array of foods within walkable distance. the simplicity of top dog. the workers at la burrita who would pause in the middle of making my special carne asada burrito to stare openly at every semi-decent girl that walked by. dude, those guys are horny. they made some good burritos tho. cheese fries at i.b. hoagies. chicken pita sandwich at eat-a-pita. their peppers are the best. who could ever forget ghetto square. i think my roommates and i came up with the nickname freshamnn yr. during our nightly trips to this small coop of take-out hole-in-the-walls. shrimp gnocchi with pink sauce at gypsy's. the nice couple at yokohama station who would always greet me. the even nicer couple at vietnam village. the yokohama lady would greet you, but the vietnam lady would go through the trouble of bringing your food out to you, and always with a smile and extra cilantro for my pho. i'll miss taste of taipei, the small restaurant that was there before sweetheart cafe. boba is cute and all, but it cant touch the killer spinach beef that taipei had. steve's bbq isn't worth mentioning cuz it's an insult to korean cuisine. and who could forget the cheapest of the cheap, the most bang for your buck, the place you went when nothing really appealed to your taste that day.....the one and only, ubiquitous to all berkeleyites...CHEESE N' STUFF!!! you just cant beat a pastrami and swiss on dutch crunch for $2.75. two sandwiches, two peach snapples, a girl, and the lawn in front of the university library in the middle of a school day. noontime bells ringing above at the campanile. who can ask for a better date? meeting friends for lunch in front of sproul fountain along with all the other kcpc people.

i'll miss the non-ghetto square places too. koryo sushi with friends on busy nights. the occaisional zachary's when an out-of-towner visited. happy family jjah-jang/jjam-bbong combos after church. mazzini's for special occaisions. koryo boon-shik when you missed mom's homestyle cooking. kcm lunches at daruma. bryan cheung's post grad dance party at daruma. hilarious... guys on a budget at liu's kitchen. lazy west coast pizza nights, with the side of hot wings and bleu cheese of course. leaning tower of west coast boxes at channing house, solely the work of sam song. tong-dak at koko house with best friends. saturday lunch specials at koko house with the same friends the next day. late night j-box aka jack-in-da-crack runs after late night studying at the library. in-n-out at pinole. bottomless carafes of rasberry iced tea at denny's with the closest of friends, the birthplace of many laughs and inside jokes. BE A MAN!!! DOWN IT FRANK!!! much love to both hilltop and san pablo denny's. no love to emeryville denny's. almost required post-bowling jaunts to nation's for breakfasts at night and coconut cream pies. handful of places in the city too expensive to remember. underrage drinking at berkeley billiards, equinox, marriott lounge, koko house, soju bang, liquor store to americana 302...crazy sophomore year. mahn-nam during ksa freshman year.

good times...
